Prophecy and Predictions, are we in the final days?

Many people are coming to believe that we are now in the “end times” and that our world will soon come to an end. Legends and myths from all parts of the world predict cataclysmic destruction and an end of the world and this belief is also found in religious texts such as the Bible. To read more about these myths you can obtain a free book titled “The End Of Time” from my website. Sceptics would have us believe that it is only ancient superstition, but there are grounds to consider that not only is it possible that the world could end but also that the time is close.

Part of the belief in the end of the world is due to prophecies that appear to have been accurate. Science debunks the possibility of prophecy or predictions of the future but scientists do not have a particularly good record when it comes to things for which they have no explanation. Science once told us that the Earth was flat, it was the centre of the universe and the universe was permanent it never had a beginning and to quote the French Academy of Science “Meteors are bunkum, not worthy of investigation; rocks do not fall from the sky.” We now know that all these scientific “facts” were false assumptions by scientists who believed that none but they had the answers, unfortunately nothing has changed science still discredits anything new. Sound scientific principles exist that can explain time and prophecy but these are too lengthy to include here however, are explained in my recent book.

Of the many predictions that appear to have occurred those concerning Israel are the most obvious and are the ones that have been noticed because many people are familiar with the Bible. The fact that it was decreed that the Jewish people would be “scattered among the nations” and then returned to the Promised Land for the “End Of Days” is seen by most believers as a sign that those times are at hand. The very existence of the state of Israel despite overwhelming opposition is seen as something of a miracle. That tiny nation surrounded by hostility, completely outnumbered and attacked several times by far superior forces survives and flourishes, the miracles of its victories are well documented.

As well as the existence of Israel there are predictions of major calamities of all sorts and the frequency and severity of these appear to be escalating. According to a study released by the British charity Oxfam, more than four times the number of natural disasters are occurring now than did two decades ago. The world suffered about 120 natural disasters per year in the early 1980s, which compares to the current figure of about 500 per year.

Global warming has been blamed for many of the problems and although the blame for warming has been laid on pollution it has also been suggested that solar activity is contributing significantly. The concept of solar responsibility is borne out by data and observations from NASA probes, which indicate that both Mars and Jupiter are experiencing warming at rates similar to those on Earth. The only thing that can cause warming on all the planets is the sun. Biblical prophecy also lays the blame for global warming on the sun.

• Revelation:
• 16:8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
• 16:9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which has power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
(King James Version)

The Bible also says that there will be a solution to this problem.
• Revelation:
• 8:12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third of it, and the night likewise.
(King James Version)

This paragraph is telling us that the Bible predicts that the world will rotate more rapidly on its axis, reducing the length of a day to only eighteen hours, or two thirds the current period. How will that help protect us from a scorching sun? The Earth is protected from the solar wind because its magnetosphere saves our atmosphere from being stripped away by high speed particles from the sun. It is the atmosphere and its clouds that enable the Earth to regulate its temperature to remain habitable. The magnetosphere is generated by a dynamo effect caused by the revolving of Earth’s molten core, to increase its magnetic strength the Earth has to spin faster. It is only since we have developed satellites that we have discovered the importance of the magnetosphere and how it works but the Bible knew two thousand years ago.

Legends and ancient astrologers claim that the world is rebuilt every seven thousand years, a view also apparently held by Nostradamus. Some researchers have conjectured that there is either another undiscovered planet (Planet X) or that the Sun is part of a binary system with a dark companion that causes disruption every seven thousand years. Neither of these theories is supported by an observed gravitational effect on other planets or the sun and so the existence of such a body is improbable. It is possible that a comet could exist with a seven thousand year return cycle and it is possible for comets to be larger than the sun, Comet Holmes reached those dimensions in 2007. Due to its much lower density a comet would not be obvious until it approached close enough to the sun to become bright and expand. Civilisations could be destroyed by such a comet and require rebuilding, resulting in the legends of remaking the Earth every seven thousand years.

We have seen many prophecies that appear to have come to pass however none have been truly definitive. Even if a comet should cause the destruction predicted it could be argued that it is a natural event and bound to happen eventually, but should the length of a day shorten to eighteen hours there can be no doubt that this is an accurate prophecy. It will also herald the coming of our expected end times. The seven thousand year cycle of legend coincides with the Mayan Calendar that ends with the alignment between the various axes of the earth, sun and galaxy. The Earth’s axis will be in a direct line with the centre of the galaxy and the various axes will form an eight spoked wheel with each radii issuing from the centre at 45o from those on either side of it. This extremely rare event only occurs once in about every twenty-three thousand years and is due to occur next in December 2012.

The prophet Nostradamus apparently believed in this “cycle of the centuries”, which is a term he used. In his quatrain X 72, he predicts that in the year 999 and seven months from the sky will come the great King of Terror who will bring back to life the great king of the Mongols. Many people assumed that Nostradamus had left off the 1000 and meant the year 1999, but as he is talking about a cycle of the "great seventh" number being accomplished he is undoubtedly referring to a year 6999. We can now see that if 2012 is the end of the “cycle of the centuries” Nostradamus predicts this event for 2011.

According to Biblical texts and prophets such as Nostradamus and ancient astronomers, such as the Mayans, the end of the world is due to coincide with the great alignment in 2012 but there is no discernable proof that these predictions are correct. Sceptics rightly point out that many predictions are quite vague and although events appear to have come to pass it may all just be coincidence. Prophecies say yes we are in the end times but there is as yet no proof to show that prophecies are real, it is up to the individual to decide whether to trust Biblical predictions and live accordingly or to simply shrug and assume it does not matter.

Coming next; the final days, are they real?
